I don't usually reread a book but I bought the audio books to listen to them since I enjoyed reading them so much. It helps that his books are set in my home town of St. They are excellent at plot and character development - which in the past was one or the other but not always both - and they keep readers on the edges of their seats, while things go sideways, at times. The 5-State area of the upper Midwest certainly isn't crime free, but unlike a lot of other places, the type of crimes and the means of dealing with them stays pretty constant, therefore the similarities. Some did not like the way that the novels detract from what the early novels did well, which was Mac solving interesting and violent murders, but in these it turns into a romance with some murder solving. There were some that feel up until the end, there was some good things going on, but the novel has a rushed ending to it that was a let down. I was happy to see that a package deal of the first 3 books in the series are now available in audio form. As I'm not a day reader, relax in bed for a good read before lights out, this story of tracking down a revenge killer was a 'just another chapter' book.
